Blake DeWitt calls Sikeston, Missouri his home. On November 20, 2008, he was the featured speaker at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce's November lunch meeting, it was here that he was presented a key to the city by Mayor Mike Marshall and learned that his No. 6 would be retired by the Sikeston High School baseball team in the spring of 2009. Mayor Marshall even went as far as to declare April 2008 in Sikeston as "Blake DeWitt Month."
Perfect Game USA rated DeWitt as the No. 2 prospect in Missouri after his junior season at Sikeston High School and was named a Baseball America First-Team All-American after his senior season, hitting .558 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. In 2009, DeWitt Made Dodgers' Opening Day roster and was called up from the minor leagues six different occasions. Of the 31 games he was called up for, he made six starts, five at third base and one at shortstop, batting .204 with two home runs and four Runs Batted In. He hit his first career pinch-hit home run on July 7 at New York and his second on September 19 vs. San Francisco. The two pinch-hit homers tied him for third in the National League behind Matt Stairs' five and Chad Tracy's three. Blake Dewitt 2008 Season
Beginning the 2008 year in Spring Training in minor league camp, DeWitt went on to be the Dodgers' Opening Day third baseman and hit .264 with 9 homers and 52 RBI in 117 games. He joined the team on March 8 after injuries sidelined both Nomar Garciaparra and Andy LaRoche. Among National League rookies, ranked sixth in average and was tied for fourth in RBI also ranked sixth with 45 runs scored and 97 hits, and was tied for eighth with 24 extra-base hits. In May he was named National League Rookie of the Month, hitting .322 with five homers, 18 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 26 games. He was optioned back to Triple-A Vegas when Casey Blake was acquired from the Cleveland Indians.
In the post-season he started all eight of the Dodgers' postseason games at second base.
