Verizon Wireless reported interruptions in customer access to data services such as email and internet affecting service on BlackBerry devices on March 3, 2010. According to a Verizon spokesperson the outage affected users "east of the Mississippi." BlackBerry customers in North and South America experienced problems accessing email on December 22, 2009, less than a week after a more widespread outage on December 17, 2009. The manufacturer of BlackBerry, RIM, confirmed the outage and said that they have resolved the problem, but has not yet reported a cause for the issues. Customers using the BlackBerry Internet Service reported problems connecting. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server, used mostly by businesses, was said to be operating as normal.
