• Career

  MC Gift of Gab and DJ Chief Xcel have known each other since high school but were seperated after graduation and did not meet back up until 1992. The duo worked on small projects with rappers DJ Shadow, Lateef the Truthspeaker and Lyrics Born. The group released an EP under the name SoleSides and eventually Gab and Xcel released their first track, Swan Lake as Blackalicious in 1994. Swan Lake was a huge hit in the underground on the underground scene and since then Blackalicious has produced three critically acclaimed albums: Nia in 2000, Blackalicious in 2002, and The Craft in 2005.
