Health Problems
Because of the variety of breeds that were originally mixed to create the black Russian terrier, they carry the genes for a number of health problems. Most commonly they may face hip and elbow displaysia, which is similar to arthritis. They may also suffer from eye and ear problems. The breed has a long, black, wiry coat that requires daily brushing and semi-annual grooming.Sports or Activities
Originally bred to assist the Russian military, modern day black Russian terriers thrive in a working environment. They are commonly used in Russia as police dogs or as helpers for farmers. They can be competitively shown or compete in obedience and agility events. They require daily exercise and plenty of human attention.
