Chief of the fictional Panther Tribe of Wakanda, the Black Panther's primary mission was to hunt down Klaw, who killed his father T'Chaka. During his pursuit for revenge, the Black Panther managed to lead and protect Wakanda's sovereignty.

After suffering from a brain aneurysm, he temporarily gave up his political power to his council, and hid in New York City. There, he mentored a police officer, who in turn inspired the Black Panther to re-assume full control over Wakanda.

During the Civil War storyline in the early 2000s, the Black Panther married Storm of the X-Men before returning to Wakanda.
