Ferry is one of the more outspoken detractors of substance abuse, otherwise known as doping, in competition. During the 2010 Winter Olympics he was quoted as saying that any athlete doping to enhance performance should receive the death penalty. Says Ferry, “Until we impose harsher penalties we will not be able to rid ourselves of people with low moral standards.” These comments were taken lightly by the media but created a bit of controversy nonetheless. http://www.faniq.com/article/Bjorn-Ferry-is-seriously-antidrug-calls-for-death-penalty-for-dopers-1989248
Ferry first began competing in World Cup competitions in 2001 but did not record a victory until the 2007/08 season. Ferry was first an Olympian during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and returned disappointing results. In the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino he was a member of the Swedish relay team. The team placed fourth in the games, just out of the medal placement. Ferry competed in the 2007 World Championships, winning a gold medal in the mixed relay competition.
