Catholic Charities Abortion
An abortion was performed in January 2008, for a girl who was under the care of the Commonwealth Catholic Charities. Bishop DiLorenzo was notified prior to the event, but was also told that there was nothing he could do about it. The United States Department of Health and Human Services has asked for an investigation into the incident to determine if the charity violated any federal laws. Federal laws prohibit the use of funds provided by the government to pay for abortions, with certain exceptions. The New York Times: Catholic Aid for Abortion Creates Stir in Virginia (July 3, 2008)
