Bisexuality is a type of sexual orientation in which one gender is attracted to both the male and female genders. This is in contrast to homosexuality where one gender is only attracted to their same gender or heterosexuality where one gender is only attracted to the opposite gender.

Bisexuality is the sexual orientation in which people are attracted to, and perhaps maintain relationships with, both genders. This doesn't mean bisexual people cannot be faithful to one gender or another or that they practice polyamory, though as with any sexual orientation, this might be the case. Bisexual people are just as capable of controlling their desires as anyone. After all, when someone is in a relationship, their attraction to a nice looking person doesn't simply turn off. However, most bisexuals just as easily as homosexuals or heterosexuals can control their sexual urges and maintain fidelity in a relationship, regardless of which gender they choose to share that relationship with.

Bisexuality has often been deemed a subset of homosexuality, because it is an alternative lifestyle to the mainstream straight or heterosexual lifestyle, but bisexuality is no more homosexual than it is heterosexual. Bisexuals might have a preference for one gender over another, but what makes someone bisexual is the attraction to--on a physical, sexual and emotional basis--both genders in a relationship.

There are people who, for sexual experimentation and pleasure, have sexual relations with both genders who are not bisexual, because true bisexuality deals with the attraction and not the action.
