Biscotti

Biscotti are crisp, dried cookies cut lengthwise and flavored with nuts, anise, and other spices. Biscotti originated from Ancient Rome, and now are considered traditional Italian cookies. The word biscotti came from the word "biscoctus" from the medieval time, which mean twice cooked or baked, referring to the way the cookie is made. In America, people use the term to refer to all twice-baked cookies. The twice baked method was used to make the cookies last longer without refrigeration in ancient time.

There are many brands of commercial biscotti available in bakeries or supermarkets. Biscotti are also as easy to make as home as any cookies. The dessert is sometimes covered or dipped in chocolate and is often served with drinks such as wine, coffee or hot chocolate. Some modern recipes use baking powder to make the cookies taste lighter.

Biscotti is one of the most popular cookies in cafes. It is usually served as accompaniment to hot coffee drinks such as espresso or cappucino. Biscotti tastes very dry and hard, which make it hard to eat it as it is. Biscotti is best eaten after it is dipped it into a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. Espresso is the favorite dip for a biscotti.
