Birth Control Injections

Categories: Health | Sexuality
  • Birth Control Injections are a form of hormonal birth control that are only administered in a physician's office. The shot is administered in a woman's arm and continues to prevent pregnancy for a period of three months.

While there was once two types of birth control injections available in the United States, Depo-Provera is the only one currently on the market. In 2002, Lunelle was recalled due to concerns on its ability to prevent pregnancy.

Birth control injections do not provide protection from sexually transmitted diseases. To prevent STDs, use a barrier method, such as a condom, in addition.
