Birth Control Implants are a form of hormonal birth control. Birth Control Implants are implanted under the skin, and consistently release hormones to prevent pregnancy.
There are two birth control implant brands. Norplant, which is manufactured by Wyeth, is not available in the United States. This stems from numerous lawsuits over the misrepresentation of the device's side effects. In 2006, the Food and Drug Administration approved Implanon.
Since birth control implants are a form on hormonal birth control, they do not prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
