Their hair is of medium length, but a finer texture than many other long haired breeds and, as such, does not require the same extensive grooming. Ancestors of modern Birmans were kept as sacred companions of Burmese priests.
  • Temperament

Birmans are often likened to puppies for their playful and social nature. They form close bonds with their families, and many will actively follow their owners around the house. Intelligent, curious and gentle, Birmans get along particularly well with children.
