Size Matters
The main deciding factor when choosing a bird cage is size. It is recommended to purchase the largest cage you can afford and fit into your home, giving the bird freedom to move comfortably inside. Larger birds require larger cages, but small birds who will spend the majority of their life inside a cage also need room to fly around. At the same time it is important that the rungs on the cage are narrow enough that the bird cannot fit their head between them, for safety reasons. Many cages are made specifically for different species of birds, for physical and mental health.
Types and Accessories
Stainless steel cages are more durable than plastic cages and will last longer. Smarter birds require cages with more intricate locks to prevent the birds from opening the cage on their own. Most cages also feature pull out trays along the bottom, for easier cleaning. In addition to the cage, there are several accessories such as water and food containers, swings or perches and toys that can be purchased and placed inside a cage.
