Bipasha Basu is an Indian supermodel turned actress whose performance in the 2003 film Jism sparked her rise to fame. She has had several hit movies in Bollywood and her performance in some very hot songs has increased her popularity. One of her most acclaimed performances was in an Item number in 2006 during the song Beedi, a national hit, in the film Omkara.

Bipasha Basu was born in Delhi, India, but her family moved to the city of Kolkata when she was still in her youth.
She had originally intended to pursue being a doctor or chartered account but was persuaded by a friend to enter into the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest which she won. After winning the contest, she embarked on a career in modeling.
She appeared in her first film Ajnabee in 2001 for which she won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.In 2002, she starred in Vikram Bhatt's thriller "Raaz", which was the biggest hit in 2002. She was widely acclaimed for her performance in Raaz and in 2003 gave another terrific performance in the hit movie Jism. Since then she has been working steadily in Bollywood films delivering several hit movies.
