Take-Two confirmed rumors that surfaced in January 2008 on the Czech gaming site Hrej.cz that a prequel is in pre-production for the hit video game BioShock. The prequel is to chronicle the demise of the 1940s utopian society living in the underwater city "Rapture". The game's is purported to be under development at the new 2K Marin studios in San Francisco, California. BioShock creator Ken Levine is allegedly not involved in the development of the prequel.

BioShock 2 has been tentatively scheduled for a 2009 Holiday season release.

The original game was a genetically enhanced first-person shooter, action and role-playing video game developed by Irrational Games for the Xbox 360 and PC.
