General Gameplay Tips
- Use the tutorial levels to learn how to swing effectively and avoid obstacles like spikes.
- Hacking computers isn't a necessary requirement for completing a level. It does offer helpful advice for beating the level boss, health resupply and score bonuses. It's timed on the higher levels of difficulty.
- Armor is helpful for taking up to four hits on the first life during a level. Watch for little gold icons to appear as armor starts to peel off Spencer. It can be replaced by exiting to the chopper and restarting the mission.
- If you are having a hard time completing a mission, fly around to the FSA camps and collect the extra lives. You can also find extra lives in the instanced fights along the flight path.
- Crouching allows Spencer to automatically fire the grapple claw straight forward. It's also excellent for ducking under gunfire and gaining a strategic position on certain enemies.
- Entering a new room saves the game and it acts as a checkpoint in case Spencer dies. When searching for hidden items, use Communication rooms as a default save point to avoid replaying the entire level.

The Oil Refinery
- YouTube: Bionic Commando: Rearmed - Area 01 - The Oil Refinery (Time: 3:45)
- Land on area 00 and enter the FSA camp. Swing to the right side of the camp and look for a door on the third floor. Enter it to grab the Revolver upgrade. It adds a third shot to the revolver's capabilities. Leave the camp and fly to the Oil Refinery.
- Move right and grab the blue barrel by pressing B. Continue right and throw the barrel at the first patrol soldier on the screen by hitting B and pushing LS in their direction. Use the grapple hook and travel upwards. Kill the three soldiers on the ledges by simply attracting their attention and shooting them by pressing A.
- Enter the door at the top of the tower by pushing up on LS. Access the computer terminal and select hack the enemy network. The hacking mini-game is a simple directional puzzle. Look for waves of yellow light streaming off the ball. That's the direction the ball travels when A is pressed. Direct the ball to the red blocks to stop it, the blue blocks to teleport it and the green block to successfully hack the network.
- HACK: The D-1 beetle has only one shield plate protecting either the top or the bottom of the hull. It cannot be damaged by ordinary gunfire.
- Contact HQ after hacking the computer to get access codes for locked doors. HQ also disables the alarms in the facility. Press B to exit the screen and grab the green health balls that fall from the pipe on the right.
- Use the large light fixture to the right and swing to the next section. Attack the cover soldiers with A and gradually move upwards. Look for red portions of the walkway that can be climbed. Use crouch (down on LS) to avoid gunfire from the cover soldiers.
- YASHICHI: Enter the room at the top of the building and back out to create a save point. Drop down a couple floors and swing to the right from closed red door. Latch onto the light fixture and swing to the next lights to find the Yashichi. (1/12)
- Re-enter the room. Hop on the lift to the right and push down on LS. Look for a Battery Powered Barrier to the right and fire on it until an explosion. Move along that corridor and slide under the rock to collect an Extra Life.
- Move back to the lift and ride down a second level. Enter the room on the right and hack another network.
- HACK: There are lots of barrels in the room where the D-1 Beetle is kept. Throwing a barrel at the Beetle will immobilize it. The weak spot is the engine.
- Collect the health and leave the room. Move left and swing to the opposite side. Kill the cover enemy and move towards the platforms over another gap. Continue moving upwards and shoot the cover soldiers on the various platforms.
- Look for a door in the northwest corner of the map. It's guarded by a heavy weapons soldier. Kill the soldier and blow up the electric barrier before entering the door to face the D-1 Beetle. The Beetle has one attack mode and the energy blasts are pretty painful.
- Swing up to the first platform and grab a blue barrel on the left in between shots. Move towards the Beetle and throw the barrel upwards at the four red lights. After the Beetle flips over, tap A to fire on the engine.
- When the Beetle recovers, the red lights are on the top. Swing up to the upper platform and repeat the process with the upper barrel. The barrel is great for protection against shots as well. If you are quick on A, you only have to do this about three times.
- WEAPON: The reward for beating the boss is Grenades. These explosives are used by hitting the X button. They can only be throw one at a time, but the Grenade Upgrade allows Spencer to toss two at a time.
