Mississippi high school football standout Billey Joe Johnson died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound during a traffic stop in Lucedale, Mississippi, on Monday, December 8, 2008. The 17-year-old Johnson was considered one of the top-rated high school football prospects in the country. It was not immediately clear whether the fatal gunshot wound was accidental, or whether Johnson committed suicide. Johnson's Death

According to reports, authorities pulled Billey Joe Johnson's car over early on the morning of December 8, 2008, after the teen ran a stop sign. When the deputy went to his patrol car to run Johnson's license, he heard a gunshot.
