Journalist Bill Moyers is the host of Bill Moyers' Journal, a weekly news and interview program airing on PBS.
Political Career
In 1954, Moyers worked as a summer intern for then-Senator Lyndon Johnson (D-TX). In 1963, when Johnson assumed the presidency following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Moyers became his special assistant. Moyers was then White House Press Secretary from 1965-1967.
Journalism
Moyers studied journalism in college, and wrote for the Daily Texan at the University of Texas, Austin. Among other positions, he was the publisher of the New York daily newspaper, Newsday from 1967-1970. He began his television career at PBS in 1971, with a prior version of Bill Moyers Journal. Other PBS shows include NOW with Bill Moyers and Wide Angle. From 1976-1986 he appeared in various capacities on CBS News.
Awards
In 2006, Moyers received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Television Academy. He is the recipient of more than 30 Emmy Awards, a lifetime Peabody Award and a career Polk Award, among others.
