Retired NBA basketball player Bill Laimbeer most recently served as the head coach of the Detroit Shock. Starting in 1980, Laimbeer played nearly 14 seasons in the NBA, winning two NBA Championships with the Detroit Pistons. He retired in 1993, returning to the Pistons as a part time television commentator. Laimbeer became the head coach of the Detroit Shock in 2002. He led the team to their first two WNBA Championships, in 2003 and 2006.
Laimbeer resigned as head coach of the Shock on June 15, 2009, stating that it was unfair to continue coaching the team when his passion was coaching an NBA team.http://sports.espn.go.com/wnba/news/story?id=4260271
