Former President Bill Clinton went on a "solely private mission" to North Korea to negotiate the release of two American journalists who were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. Laura Ling and Euna Ling were arrested in March 2009 for illegally entering the country and "engaging in hostile acts." The two were pardoned after Clinton's visit on August 4, 2009.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124938154079404323.html
