    San Dimas, California natives Bill and Ted have dreams of turning their garage band, Wyld Stallyns, into a worldwide sensation. These dreams are in danger, however, as Ted will sent to military school in Alaska if he flunks history class.

    A representative from the future, Rufus, reveals to Bill and Ted that their music will inspire an unprecedented period of world peace and prosperity, and that it is imperative that they pass their history class. Rufus lends them a time machine in the guise of a phone booth, and the two slackers travel through time collecting historical figures to use in their history presentation.

    During their time travel adventures, Bill and Ted collect Napoleon, Socrates, Billy the Kid, Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Sigmund Freud, Genghis Khan and Beethoven. In order to fool Bill's stepmother, they introduce them as Herman the Kid, Bob Genghis Khan, So-Crates Johnson, Maxine of Arc and Dennis Frood.
