  • Early Career

    Phillips began modeling as a young teenager and has reportedly lived on her own since she was 14 years old. In her teens, she appeared on the cover of Vogue and in 2000, she posed nude for Playboy. A year earlier, she released the post-alternative album I'd Rather Eat Glass. The album, produced by the Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison, attempted to combine Phillips' throaty abrasiveness with a career-evolving sensitivity.
  • Film Career

    Phillips had small roles in the entertainment industry-themed films Sugar Town and Almost Famous. Her performance in 2001's Bully established her as a successful actress. In the following years, Phillips appeared in The Door in the Floor, Havoc and Eli Roth's Hostel: Part II.
  • Lennon/Phillips

    Phillips had a four-year relationship with musician Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon. Lennon ended the relationship after discovering that Phillips was having an alleged affair with his good friend Max LeRoy. LeRoy died in a motorcycle accident in 2005.
