The Biggest Loser Diet is based on the diet followed by the contestants on the NBC reality TV show, The Biggest Loser. The details of the diet are found at the subscription based Biggest Loser Club online website, and in the book, The Biggest Loser: The Weight Loss Program to Transform Your Body, Health and Life. There is also a meal plan option, where you can order seven days of prepared Biggest Loser Diet foods, delivered by Bistro M.D..
Diet Details
The Biggest Loser Diet involves counting calories, selecting healthy foods, and carefully balancing the food groups you select your foods from. The diet requires you to get 45% of your calories from complex carbohydrates, 30% from lean protein, and 25% from healthy fats. In order to determine how many calories you're permitted each day, you multiply your current weight by 7. Using this formula a 150 pound person would be limited to 1,050 calories a day, while a 250 pound person would be permitted 1,750 calories. An adjustment can be made for your activity level. The book includes three sample meal plans, for 1,200, 1,500, and 1,800 calories a day. The meal plans are structured according to the Biggest Loser Diet's 4, 3, 2, 1 pyramid.
- 4 servings of fruits and vegetables
- 3 servings of lean protein
- 2 servings of complex carbohydrates
- 1 serving of healthy fat
Exercise Component
The Biggest Loser Diet plan also requires exercise. The plan begins with 30 minutes of cardio and strength training, and and increases to one hour of exercise per day.
