When we look at the history of the Monster Truck known as Big Foot, we are really looking at the history of Monster Trucks as a whole. The story goes like this; Bob Chandler had a 4X4 work truck that he kept breaking.
The original Big Foot was an F-250 4X4 and Bob used it in his job as a construction contractor and for family off road fun on the weekends. Through the course of constantly fixing his truck Bob discovered that there was no truck shop in the Mid West where he could get parts and service. Being a smart businessman he recognized a whole in the market and founded Midwest Four Wheel Drive & Performance Center with his wife Marilyn and Jim Kramer.
The Bigfoot truck was originally just a promotion tool of the company, and its first appearance was at a car show in Denver in 1979. http://www.bigfoot4x4.com/history1.html Stadium shows, tractor pulls and the like soon followed.
In 1981 Bob decided to see if his truck could drive over a few junk cars, upon successful completion of the first car crunch a new sports had been born. In 1983 he picked up a sponsorship package from Ford Motor Company, and by the lat 1980’s the car crush had become passé and the next logical evolution of this sports was born, why not race the trucks. This of course would be followed by the next evolution in the sport of Monster Trucks exhibition, the freestyle events.
