Career
Big Star was formed by guitarist Chris Bell and former Box Tops singer Alex Chilton in 1971. The entire band contributed to the songwriting process, with Bell and Chilton writing the majority of songs in a collaborative style modeled after The Beatles' John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Poor distribution marred Big Star's chances of success with their initial three albums, and creative conflicts led to the band's breakup in 1974. Chris Bell died in a car accident in 1978, but Big Star has since reunited and occasionally performs live.Band Members
