Big South Tournament

The Big South Men’s Basketball conference championship has turned in some exciting moments in seasons during the last half of the 2000s. This southern mid-major conference is comprised of ten schools located in the south and mid-Atlantic in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The teams comprising the Big South conference are Coastal Carolina, Radford, Winthrop, UNC Asheville, High Point, Liberty, Charleston Southern, VMI, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian College. During the 2008-2009 regular season, Radford led the way with a 15-3 regular season record, followed by VMI at 13-5 and Liberty at 12-6. In the conference tournament that year, Radford ran the table, High Point, UNC Asheville, and VMI en route to the conference championship. In the NCAA tournament, Radford was defeated by North Carolina by a score of 101-58. The previous year, during the 2007-2008 season, Winthrop played their way into the big dance with a dominating performance over UNC Asheville in the championship game. Perhaps the most memorable tournament champion was the Winthrop team of 2006-2007. Winthrop squeaked by VMI 84-81 in the championship game and went on to the NCAA tournament to defeat Notre Dame in perhaps the most memorable victory in the basketball conference’s twenty-five year history.http://www.bigsouthsports.com/fls/4800/STATS/MBB/2008-09/RAD.HTM
