  • Big Country is a Scottish rock band who began their career in the early '80s. Their sound integrated traditional Scottish music into alternative rock, often using effects to make guitar sound like bagpipes. Though they were popular in the United Kingdom throughout much of their career, the band's only big U.S. hit was "In a Big Country" off of their first album, The Crossing.

The band broke up in 2000 and the following year lead singer Stuart Adamson disappeared and was later found dead after hanging himself in his Hawaii hotel room. In 2007, surviving Big Country members reunited for a 25 year anniversary tour. The live album that resulted was released on the Internet only.
