Big 12 Men's Basketball

The Big 12 men's basketball conference is a Division I college athletic conference comprised of 12 schools located in the central part of the United States. The league was formed in 1994, when the old Southwest Conference disbanded. The eight existing schools in the Big Eight Conference --[]Iowa State]], Kansas State, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Missouri - joined four schools from the Southwest Conference -Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech - to create the two new league.

The conference is split into two six-team divisions. The schools in the South Division are the Texas teams, along with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The other former Big Eight schools make up the North Division. Since its creation, the Big 12 has been one of the top basketball conferences in the nation, annually sending multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament. Traditionally, Kansas is the Big 12's dominant team, winning three national championships and advancing to 13 "Final Fours". The Jayhawks most recent national title game in 2008. Oklahoma State is the only other Big 12 to win a national championship, but the Cowboys two titles came in the 1940s. The Big 12 placed six teams in the NCAA Tournament last season, with Missouri and Oklahoma reaching the regional finals. Missouri lost to Connecticut, 82-75, in the West Region final and Oklahoma fell to [[North Carolina], 72-60, in the South Region final. Big 12 2009-10 Season

Kansas' bid for an undefeated conference season ended with an 85-77 loss at Oklahoma State on February 27. The defeated knocked the Jayhawks out of the nation's No. 1 ranking, but they rebounded with wins over Kansas State and Missouri to finish the regular season 29-2 , including a 15-1 mark in conference play.
