Betty Jackson

Betty Jackson is a British designer who studied at the Birmingham College of Art. While attending college in 1968, Jackson began her career as a freelance illustrator and continued even after graduation in 1971. In 1973, she became Wendy Daqworthy's design assistant. Joining with her husband and business partner David Cohen in 1981, she formed her own company, Betty Jackson Ltd, and became chief designer and director. The label took off and in the same year she won her first Woman magazine award as that publication's Separates Designer of the Year. Jackson is known for working with the softness of color while using the hardness of leathers, bringing the two together while keeping the feminine look. In 1987 she was named a Member of the British Empire and also won the Viyella Award.

Jackson was named as honorary fellow at the Royal College of Art in London and a fellow at the Birmingham Polytechnic as well as honorary fellow at the University of Central Lancashire. The 2010 catwalk show featuring Jackson's 2010 autumn/winter collection was held on February 21, 2010.
