Beth Gibbons is the lead singer for the trip-hop band Portishead. She began singing in local English pubs until she joined Portishead along with Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley in 1991.
Background
Portishead released their debut album, Dummy Portishead Album in 1994. In 1997 the band released their self-titled second album, Portishead and followed it in 1998 with the release of, Roseland NYC Live.
After the release of their 1998 album, Portishead temporarily disbanded while each pursued other careers. Gibbons went on to produce her debut solo album in 2002 titled Out of Season. She also collaborated with Paul Webb who is known as Rustin Man.
In 2005 Portishead came together to perform live for a Tsunami benefit which was the first time they had performed together in seven years. Then in 2008 the Portishead band announced the upcoming release of their latest album Third which was released on April 28, 2008.
