BET Awards

The BET Awards began on June 19, 2001 as a way to celebrate accomplishments of people of color in areas of entertainment. It is shown live on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network annually.

The 2010 BET Awards were hosted by Queen Latifah. Two new categories were added: "Best Movie" and "Young Stars". The winners were announced live on June 27, 2010 at 8PM Central Time.

2010 BET Awards Honorees

Prince came to the music scene in 1978. His first album "For You", which hit #21 on the R & B charts, made him the youngest producer on the Warner label. In 1981, he formed the music group The Time, led by Morris Day. Prince won an Academy Award for "Purple Rain" in 1985. With over 30 years in the business, he received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. http://betawards.bet.com/

John Legend started writing music at the age of 11. In 1995, he worked with Lauryn Hill on "Everything is Everything". But, his true break came in 2001 when Kanye West signed him to his label G.O.O.D music. In 2006, Legend launched his own label Homeschool Records and started his Show Me Campaign. It is a non-profit organization that fights poverty and calls for education reform in the United States. Carlos Rodriguez (also known as "Mare 139") was born 1965 in Spanish Harlem in New York City. He is an internationally acclaimed artist. In 2001, his design was approved and the rest is history.
