The BET Awards are presented each year in recognition of achievement in black entertainment. The winners were announced live on the June 24, 2008, award show, featuring actor and comedian D.L. Hughley as host.
The 2009 BET Awards aired on June 28, 2009. Due to the surprising death of Michael Jackson, most of the show featured tributes to the legendary pop star. Jamie Foxx paid tribute with a moonwalk and Jackson's sister Janet Jackson made an appearance.
BET Awards History

The Black Entertainment Television network began the award in 2001 to recognize achievement in black entertainment. Former hosts include comedians Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Damon Wayans and Mo'Nique, as well as actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
