Oscar History
The first-ever Academy Awards were held on May 12, 1929, at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. All of the fifteen winners had been announced three months prior, a practice that would change the next year (and thereafter), keeping the winners a secret until the actual awards ceremony.
