Oscar History
The first-ever Academy Awards were held on May 12, 1929, at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. All of the fifteen winners had been announced three months prior, a practice that would change the next year (and thereafter), keeping the winners a secret until the actual awards ceremony. Attendance for the Oscars grew, and the Academy moved operations to Grauman's Chinese Theater in 1942. 1953 marked the first time the Oscars were televised and 1966 was the first time it was broadcast in color.http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/about/history.html
