Eminem — Best Rap Album 2011 Grammy Award Winner
Rapper Eminem received the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album for his 2010 release "Recovery" at the 53rd Grammy Awards on February 13, 2011. He beat out fellow nominees B.o.B., Drake, Jay-Z and The Roots. Though nominated for a total of 10 awards for his album, Eminem walked away from the show with only 2: Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance. Many of the other major awards were presented to country-pop outfit Lady Antebellum.
In his speech after winning the award, Eminem thanked his producers and studio musicians, his collaborators Dr. Dre and Rihanna and his label.
Eminem performed two songs during the 2011 awards. First, he was joined on stage by R&B singer Rihanna for their duet, "Love the Way You Lie." Afterwards, Rihanna left the stage and Eminem was joined by frequent collaborator Dr. Dre for their song "I Need a Doctor." He had recently been in the news prior to the show after appearing in 2 popular Super Bowl ads, for Lipton Brisk Iced Tea and Chrysler. The Chrysler spot, titled "Imported From Detroit," stirred some discussion and controversy for its presentation of Eminem's troubled home town.
