Best New Artist 2009 Grammys

Adele won the award for Best New Artist at the 2009 Grammy Awards, which were held on February 8, 2009. The other nominees in the category were Duffy, The Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum and Jazmine Sullivan.

The Best New Artist award recognizes the recording that first establishes an artist's public identity; normally the artist's first album is recognized, but not always.

Stripped of Award

In 1990, the Best New Artist trophy was revoked from Milli Vanilli for their 1989 win after it was discovered that neither member of the duo actually sang on their album.
