  • Award History

The name of this Oscar has changed quite a bit throughout the years. When it was first awarded in 1932, there were two different categories a short film could win, novelty or comedy. In 1934, a third category Short Subjects-color, was added. Two years later they scrapped the three awards and re-named two that would be handed out, Short Subjects one-reel, Short Subjects two reel. From 1957 until 1970 the term Short Subjects, Live Action Subject was used. Today, the award is called Best Live Action Short.
