Smile Pinki, about an Indian girl with a cleft lip, won the Best Documentary Short Oscar at the Academy Awards Ceremony on February 22, 2009. The other nominees for the award were: The Conscience of Nhem En is about a Cambodian man who as a 16-year-old soldier was required to take photographs of thousands of Cambodians before they were executed during the regime of Khmer Rouge. The Final Inch is about the effort to fight polio around the world. The Witness From the Balcony of Room 306 is about a Reverend who witnessed the murder of Martin Luther King Jr.
