Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire, won the Best Director Oscar at the Academy Awards on February 22, 2009.
The other nominees were David Fincher, Ron Howard, Gus Van Sant, and Stephen Daldry. It was the first nomination for Fincher and Boyle, the second for Van Sant and Howard and the third for Daldry.
