Bert Nussbaumer was kidnapped in November 2006, along with John Roy Young, Jonathon Cote, Paul Reuben, and Joshua Munns. They were guarding a convoy of 43 trucks near the Kuwait border when they were ambushed by men dressed as Iraqi security officers. His family was reassured about his condition in early March 2008, when it was reported one of Bert's fingers had been sent to U.S. officials in Iraq, along with fingers of several of the other hostages. Family members were actually encouraged by the find, as it indicated that the men may still be alive. There have been no other indications of his condition, other than a video taped message one month after their abduction. John Roy Young, as well as Ronald Withrow, who was kidnapped at a later date, were found dead on March 21, 2008.
