Bernard Kerik is the former police commissioner of New York City, serving under Rudy Giuliani from 2000-2001. In a case stretching back to 2006, Kerik faces Federal charges of tax fraud, conspiracy and purgery.
On May 26, 2009, Kerik was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for allegedly giving "false and misleading answers" to Bush administration officials in 2004 while being interviewed to head the Department of Homeland Security. He allegedly failed to disclose that he had accepted $255,000 in free renovations from contractors while serving as police commissioner.Newsday.com: Ex-NYC police commissioner Bernard Kerik indicted (May 26, 2009) Kerik was nominated for the position by George W.
