Bernard Hopkins

  • Bernard Hopkins is a former boxing champion and is a promoter with partner Oscar De La Hoya in Golden Boy Promotions.

    Hopkins was the middleweight champion for 20 years, in recent years he has fought in the light heavyweight division. A six-time world champion, Hopkins is noted for having excellent conditioning which has allowed him to fight well into his 40's.

    On October 18, 2008, Hopkins scored a major upset over the middleweight champion of the world, Kelly Pavlik. Hopkins dominated the fight in a lopsided decision. Pavlik was favored 4-1.   • Early Life

    Hopkins was born on January 15, 1965, in the tough streets of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the age of 17 Hopkins was arrested and sent to prison. Hopkins spent five years incarcerated, but while in prison developed an appreciation for the art of boxing. Once out, Hopkins set out to become a professional boxer.   • Earning the National Spotlight

    Although fighting competitively for over a decade, and losing a 12 round decision to Roy Jones Jr., Hopkins did not receive national attention until 2001 when he fought in the middleweight tournament which culminated in a match-up against the heralded superstar Felix Trinidad. Hopkins defeated Trinidad in the 12th round in Madison Square Garden.
