  • The Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, has the largest public attendance of any film festival in the world. Widely considered to be one of the most important film festivals of the year, the Berlin International Festival presents films that are representative of every area of the industry. Up to 400 films are screened each year and 20 compete for awards. The The European Film Market trade show, one of the most important for the international film industry, runs concurrently with the festival, as does the Berlinale Talent Campus, a series of workshops and lectures for young filmmakers. The festival was founded in 1951 and has been held annually since 1978. The 59th Berlin International Film Festival will be held from February 5 to 15, 2009.
