  • In the fall of 2007, tree sitters placed themselves in the upper limbs of a grove of oaks at UC Berkeley, to protest university development. As the protest gained steam, the school ruled anyone helping the protesters will be subject to arrest, and erected a fence around the trees. After a year, the protesters and the university came to an agreement and a crowd of bystanders watched as the last three tree sitters were brought down and arrested on September 9, 2008.The New York Times: Berkeley Tree Protesters Climb Down (September 9, 2008)
