Beringia ia an area also known as the Bering Land Bridge, that connected Alaska and Siberia during the Ice Age. During the Pleistocene era, the Arctic and Antarctic polar ice caps concentrated sea water as ice, causing a general drop in sea level. This revealed the sea floor in parts of the earth, forming "land bridges' such as Beringia. The area reflooded at the end of the Ice Age. The area is significant because it is believed to have enabled human and animal migration from Asia to the Americas about 25,000 years ago. Recent research suggests that Beringia was actually settled for a period of time, rather than just used as a migratory path.
