Bering Sea

The Bering Sea is located in the north Pacific Ocean, bordered by Alaska and Russia. It is named for Dutch navigator Vitus Bering, the first European to sail there.

Bering Land Bridge

Many scientists believe that, during the last Ice Age, in the Pleistocene era around 12,000 years ago, the sea level was low enough that what is now the Bering Straight may have been accessible by humans on foot. This could have been the entrance to the North American continent for ancient peoples.
