Located in central Kentucky, Berea College is a small private university that offers undergraduate degrees to select area students for no cost. It is also the first interracial and co-educational college in the south.Official Site: About Berea College
In May of 2009, the college announced that it would cut 30 of its 131 full-time staff members, plus nine part-time jobs.
Tuition Policy
Unlike most universities, Berea charges no tuition to its 1,500 students. It is considered more selective than other colleges, accepting less than 30% of applicants and generally limiting admission to academically promising students from low-income Appalachian families. Students are however required to work 10 hours a week on campus in one of over 130 departments.Official Site: About Berea College
