Bender is a foul-mouthed, alcoholic, cigar-smoking, kleptomaniacal, misanthropic, egocentric, ill-tempered, pessimistic robot originally programmed to bend girders for suicide booths. He is the main character Fry's best friend and roommate. Bender was built by Mom's Friendly Robot Company at its plant in Tijuana, Mexico, circa 2998. He is a Bending-Unit 22, serial number 2716057, chassis number 1729.
