On August 12, 2009, Wallace resigned with the Pistons as a free agent.
Early Years
Wallace was not heavily recruited in high school, and thus played at the junior college level at Cuyahoga Community College. He then moved from a Division II team to the pro-league in Italy, before he was picked up by the then Washington Bullets in 1996. He was undrafted.
2009 - 2010 NBA Season
Wallace played in 69 games for the Pistons, starting in 67 of them. He averaged 5.5 points and 8.7 rebounds in 28.6 minutes per game. His season high 18 points combined with 6 rebounds to help the team beat the Philadelphia 76ers 124 to 103.
Wallace's best game might be considered one of his three double-doubles. He scored 13 points and gathered 21 rebounds in a 110 to 104 win against the New Orleans Hornets.
NBA Career
Ben Wallace went undrafted in the 1996 NBA draft. He was signed on as a free agent by the Washington Bullets. He eventually landed with the Detroit Pistons, playing for Flip Saunders. He was an integral part of the team's championship victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004. In 2006, general manager Joe Dumars promised to make Wallace the highest paid Piston of all time, which he did. However, Wallace decided to take a deal with the Chicago Bulls shortly after that for $60 million, $10 million more than he was making in Detroit. He then moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers after the Bulls traded him in 2008.
During the NBA All-Star weekend of 2009, Wallace cut his forearm on glass while playing football in Virginia. He underwent a procedure to remove the glass and received 14 stitches.
