The Belgian tervuren is a long haired Belgian shepherd dog in any color other than black. In the United States, the Belgian tervuren is recognized by the American Kennel Club as its own breed, but in other countries around the world the tervuren is regarded as a variety of the Belgian shepherd breed.
Sports or Activities
Belgian tervurens are commonly used in herding of livestock. They are intelligent and trainable, which makes them prime candidates for police and guide dogs. They can be kept as family pets, but do require daily exercise and proper discipline. Tervurens that are not sufficiently exercised or disciplined may be destructive or aggressive, making them a poor choice for families with children.

Featured Video
This is an excellent short video clip describing the Belgian sheepdog family of dog breeds, to which the Belgian Tervuren belongs. Since all the Belgian sheepdog varieties are very similar (some breed registries do not differentiate between them), the general temperament, personality traits and grooming requirements apply to the Belgian Tervuren.
