Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois is a medium-sized working dog, commonly used for herding or police work. Closely related to the Belgian shepherd, the Malinois is sometimes considered to be a subcategory of the same breed.

The Malinois was developed in Belgium in the 1900’s and the first Belgian Malinois was brought to the United States in 1911. It was then recognized by the American Kennel Club. At that time they were not classed as a herding breed, but put into the miscellaneous group. It wasn’t until after 1965 that the AKC placed them in the herding class.http://www.terrificpets.com/dog_breeds/belgian_malinois.asp

A Solid Bond

Malinois are very sensitive, intelligent dogs that form exceptionally strong attachments to their human companions.American Belgian Malinois Club: Is the Malinois Right for You? While most canine lovers will appreciate such devotion, its flip side is the breed's need for sustained attention and possible wariness of strangers. Also, Malinois—particularly younger ones—may experience marked anxiety when not in the presence of their human companions. The Pedigree Database: breedinfo.html Belgian Malinois
